Scenes from Bariloche, Argentina

The park ranger´s office in Bariloche. Very cautious people! They told us the trail we had just been on was closed (due to snow).

The main square of Bariloche, looking down toward Lago Nahuel Huapi.

This is the lake the town of Bariloche, Argentina, sits on. In the distance are the Andes, where we hope to be trekking in a few days time.

Michael and Rosemary -- Nice to know that you're out and about! I've been thinking about you both, and enjoying imagining your life. OK, so I'm jealous. I spent 30 minutes this morning trying to get an almost-6-year-old to put on his clothes so we could get to school on time. We were late...

On a historical note, I spent about 10 days on Chiloe Island -- in Puerto Montt -- with a bunch of europeans and american cyclists, drinking wine and cooking clams on the beach. It was at the end of my long trip and it reminded me so much of Wisconsin, the rolling hills and fields. I was twenty at the time -- waaay too fucking long ago. Ah, memories.

How was the con carne in Chili?

I'm so envious of you guys! Already you have lovely photos!

I was in Puerto Montt in September of 1995 and then again in November.

P.S. I was treated to a Don Singh-Cundy sighting on Friday! I'll bet he wishes he was in Patagonia now. Eat your heart out, Singh-Cundy!

Hey Guys,

We miss you already! We're so jealous of those pictures of spring. Washington was hit by a pretty big wind and rain storm last night leaving 2/3 of the state out of power! Most people have it back now, but they are saying possibly a week for Marblemount. It really makes you appreciate the little things like being able to flush the toilet and wash the dishes.

Anyway glad to know your trip is going well. We'll be following along so keep it coming.

Love,

Brooke and Mike
